FAQs
These FAQs provide some key information about Bonsai, including how Bonsai operates as a provider of consultancy and “non-reserved legal services”, and what this means in practice for our clients. If you have any questions, please email hello@bonsai.blue.
What are the full Company details for Bonsai?
Bonsai is the trading name of Bonsai Blue Consulting Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales under company no. 15833644.
Is Bonsai a law firm?
No, Bonsai is not a regulated law firm. We offer AI consultancy and "non-reserved legal services", which fall outside the scope of the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) remit. However, you are unlikely to notice much difference, as our consultants have many years’ experience in law firms and in-house, hold themselves to high standards of service and will always act honestly and with integrity.
Do you conduct “Reserved Legal Activities”?
No. Bonsai does not conduct any “reserved legal activities”, such as conveyancing, probate activities, administration of oaths or litigation. Most of our work consists of AI consultancy and non-contentious commercial support. Bonsai has good relationships with many SRA regulated law firms to which we can refer you if you need support with “reserved legal activities”.
Are your consultants solicitors?
Yes, our consultants are solicitors licenced to practice in England & Wales, and are personally regulated by the SRA. Laura Holden is regulated under SRA number 507155 and will adhere to the SRA's Code of Conduct for Solicitors in the provision of services.
What can I do if I have a complaint?
If you’re unhappy with any of the services provided, complaints should be directed to hello@bonsai.blue, and will be handled via our Complaints Handling Policy, a copy of which will be provided to you as part of our onboarding process. A copy of our Complaints Handling Policy is also available on request by emailing hello@bonsai.blue.
Do I have recourse to the Legal Ombudsman?
No, this is unlikely to be available to you because our advice is given as part of non-reserved, unregulated services. You may, however, be able to raise a complaint with the SRA if you have an allegation of professional misconduct concerning one of our consultants (e.g., breach of SRA principles such as dishonesty or conflict of interest) by submitting your concern to enquiries@legalombudsman.org.uk.
What insurance does Bonsai hold?
Bonsai holds professional indemnity insurance up to £2 million per claim, which we consider appropriate for the nature of services we offer. This contrasts with SRA regulated law firms who must offer cover of at least £3 million per claim. Clients of regulated law firms have access to the SRA Compensation Fund.
